ABOUT Dr Colleen J.B.Hiscock
Dr Hiscock studied medicine at the University of Witwatersrand where she graduated with MBBCH in 2006. After University Dr Hiscock completed her first year of internship at Pretoria Academic Hospital in 2007, where she worked in the fields of General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedics and Anaesthetics.
Dr Hiscock then moved to Cape Town to complete her second year of internship at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg in 2008, where she gained further experience in Accidents and Emergencies, Paediatrics and Gynae.
Dr Hiscock also worked in Obstetrics at Mowbray Maternity Hospital where she gained further experience. In 2009 she completed her year of Community Service working in the field of Neonatology at Mowbray Maternity as well as working in Community Health at Vanguard Community Health Centre.
Dr Hiscock then enrolled in Post Graduate study in Family Practice by joining the Master’s Degree program of Family Medicine presented through the University of Cape Town. This is a 4 year general practice specialization programme.
During this period Dr Hiscock gained further experience in all the specialities of medicine in the government hospitals where she was employed by the Western Cape Department of Health, and worked in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Anaesthetics, ARV’s, and Community Health.
Having completed and passed her specialist exams for Family Medicine through the College of Medicine South Africa (FCFP), and Research through UCT, Dr Hiscock obtained her Masters in Family Medicine.
In addition to her Masters programme, she also completed a Diploma in Child Health through the College of Medicine South Africa in 2009, following her keen interest in Paediatrics’ and Child Health. Dr Hiscock further completed Advanced Adult Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS).
Prior to purchasing the practice from Dr Barnard, she owned and successfully ran a well established medical practice in Somerset West. Dr Hiscock then sold her practice in Somerset West to move closer to home in Durbanville, taking the opportunity to join and eventually purchase Dr Barnard’s practice, since Dr Barnard decided to take an opportunity to relocate to Hermanus and join a practice there.
